Among other things, the holiday season is a great watch to binge-watch TV. Yes, it’s good for bonding with family, taking time off, and becoming one with your inner couch-potato to refresh and recharge.
I asked readers about their favorite shows to binge-watch, and, per usual, there was a variety of responses. Here’s a cross-section of what they had to say:
“Mad Men because a) It was a great show, b) Jon Hamm is pretty easy on the eyes but most of all c) the show took me back to nearly every aspect of my childhood and provided intense memories of my grandparents, and the fun of being a child in mid century America. Plus I could drool over the clothes and the sets.” – Erika Johnson-Lamoureaux
“Great British Bake Off (unfamiliar recipes and amusing hosts and competitors especially cozy over holidays), The Crown (incredible period production value and wonderful actors in historical drama), Longmire (steeped in classic Americana and predictable story arcs are reassuring), Black Mirror (unpredictable and fast moving futurist narratives).” – She Igh
“Bones. I’ve watched each episode about 10 times. I could probably figure out someone’s cause of death at this point LOL!” – Monica Wild
“Law and Order: SVU. Man oh maaan. I’m not sure why I get sucked in.” – Eseel Borlasa
“Blue Bloods. So real and I love the family dinners and the talk around the table.” – Sharon Hunt
“Fave now is Top Model with my 15-year-old daughter. We bond over things we like and don’t like about the fashions, contestant behaviors and challenges.” – Angel Aviles McClinton
“Mozart in the Jungle. It’s time for something uplifting.” – Michele Weisbart
“Mozart in the Jungle. Because I can’t stop. It’s not a choice. I watched each of the last 2 seasons in a weekend (as in, over the very weekends they each came out!). It’s taken everything I have to hold off on S3 till tomorrow (when my foot is landing me on bed rest for two weeks). … [Also] Orange is the New Black! The antithesis of my other pick. This one I can’t stop because it’s so beautiful but I want to stop because it’s so horrible but I can’t stop.” – Deanna Barnert
“I re-watch Doctor Who and most of the Star Trek series to relax. I re-watch Battlestar Galactica because it’s my church.” – Ryan Basham
And for those who can’t pick just one or two or three…
“Whatever I have recently been sucked into. The recent ones have been Limitless, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Stranger Things. Older shows are Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, and Doctor Who.” – Karen Bonarek
“All the Dick Wolf Chicago shows because they are tackling important issues and doing such a great job with character and emotions. (Chicago PD, FIRE, and MED). … If we are doing past too: Buffy, Friends, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Gilmore Girls, Felicity.” – Stephanie Olivieri
“Really depends on my mood…. Friends, Gilmore Girls, BoJack Horseman, Orange is the New Black, Shameless, House of Cards, Teen Mom, Kimmy Scmidt, Stranger Things, ID channel shows, documentaries….” – Meredith Lee
